My name is Ruben Dario Medina, I was born in La Havana, Cuba, in 1969. I graduated in sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts “San Alejandro” of La Havana in 1989.
In 1998 I moved to Italy, Milan, where I have completed my artistic training and I opened my own Studio. Over the past 15 years in Italy, I specialized in the realization of monumental sculptures. I have worked marble with a craft process based on nineteenth-century classical techniques, not involving the use of industrial machinery. My creative projects have been mainly pieces for public, corporate and private commissions. I made marble and bronze sculptures, above all figurative subjects. My most prestigious work so far are in Italy, in public places, you can see them on www.rdario.com.
My art is characterized by a nautical theme, in fact the sea is my passion. I'm making a series of sculptures with the idea that these were just pulled out from the bottom of the sea. I hand carve the anchors and the boat wheels that are made of wood or PVC, I cover them with bronze or copper coating. The artworks are sprayed with traditional green or blue patina. Metal oxide gives my sculptures the unique and characteristic color.
Most of my sculptures are suitable for outside because they are hand carved from PVC.
I also hand carve 3D sculptures of figurative subjects and I like to put a light inside. My professional experience as an artist covers a full range of decorative and fine arts. I create all my sculptures with passion and precision. The attention to detail always characterizes my work.
"I would very much enjoy to be challenged with new commissions!"
